Notice Against Using the Single Window Initiative (SWI), Integrated Import Declaration (IID) to Obtain Release of Goods Imported Via the Postal Stream
Customs Notice 20-04

1. This notice is being issued to advise brokers/importers that the Single Window Initiative (SWI), Integrated Import Declaration (IID), Service Option 911 was not designed to process a release request for goods that are imported via the postal stream.

2. The SWI IID is a cargo centric model, which means the associated cargo data must be on file with the Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) electronically in order for a SWI IID transaction to obtain release.

3. Goods that are imported via the postal stream do not have any associated cargo data that is filed electronically with the CBSA.

4. As a result of the above, the SWI IID Service Option 911 must not be used to obtain release of goods that have been imported via the postal stream.

Tariq Shaikh at Precision Customs has delivered significant value to our company thanks
to his deep customs expertise, attention to detail and genuine interest in helping our
business grow. I have been impressed by the level of diligence Tariq has consistently
shown in preparing large and complex documentation that put us in a strong position to
manage our expenses paid to the CBSA. His work identifying an opportunity and consulting
for Wayfair has resulted in material savings to our business, and I’d recommend Precision
Customs to others.
